We proudly present THE GENTLE STORM’s brand new video: ‘Heart of Amsterdam’>>
This is the second track taken from the upcoming concept album ‘The Diary’ by the artists Arjen A. Lucassen and Anneke van Giersbergen.
The first thing that strikes you about this number is that it’s a sea-shanty. So it will appeal to that strange pirate who lurks inside your black heart.
With whistling pipes and jiggling wavelets of fancy fiddle – you can almost feel the wind in your face, and the icy rain as it beats against the hull.
The rhythm is the dull thud of waves pounding against wet timbers.
In the video Anneke is dressed like an 18th century cupcake – a profusion of undergarments and ointments.
The vocal is never dramatic or angry – only effective and calculated. It’s the melody that keeps things alive on this one.
Maybe this does not provide as many magical goosebumps as we might have expected. But it is distinctive, intelligent and, dare-we-say – adorable.
