Yanking their musical influences from bands such as Black Stone Cherry and Black Label Society, Mordecai from South London UK have fused their richly melodic, American hard rock sounds with darkness — and tend to serve it up with a touch of gritty British Heavy Metal .
Last time we heard ‘em, our noble Scriba Pontificus here at METAL AS RELIGION thought Mordecai managed to successfully overcome the many (obvious) American influences — while maintaining an individualistic sense of purpose and self-esteem… They manage to create sound structures that will appeal to the widest possible audiences.
We had a listen to new track Fight Fire with Fire:
The turmoil on this muddy wild blues offering tends to throw us off balance …
It’s hot as hell with frantic guitars and amazing drummery. The chorus, although mentally restless, is completely memorable…
And, although the vocal is full of agitated disturbance — there is the melodic perfection here too.
Richly evocative British metal with a sound so irascible it will flame your ears…
